Taheera Augousti earned her 50th international cap against India, while captain Dayaan Cassiem made his 100th appearance for South Africa at the tournament.
Global (20 August 2026) – With the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup already underway in Belgium and the Netherlands, South African hockey has had two major milestones for players in the green and gold.
On the women’s side, Taheera Augousti marked her 50th international appearance for South Africa when she took on India at the tournament.
While she was still in Grade 11, Augousti spoke about her dream of representing her country. She has since turned that ambition into reality on some of the biggest stages in international hockey.
Her international journey has included representing South Africa at the 2023 Junior World Cup in Chile and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Now, she has added a 50th senior international cap to the list.
There was also a landmark moment on the men’s side, with South African captain Dayaan Cassiem earning his 100th cap for the national team at the World Cup.
Cassiem made his international debut at just 18 and has spent the past decade establishing himself as one of the key figures in South African men’s hockey. Reaching a century of appearances while captaining his country at a World Cup makes the achievement even more special.
Reaching 50 and 100 international appearances respectively is no small feat, particularly on a World Cup stage. For Augousti and Cassiem, these milestones are another marker of careers that continue to grow in the green and gold.
