The Boks, Bafana Bafana, Springbok Women, Proteas and two South African boxers headline a busy weekend of sport.

Global (25 September 2026) – With the weekend ahead, there’s plenty of green and gold to keep an eye on across rugby, football, boxing and netball.

The Springboks return to action in Australia, Bafana Bafana begin a new chapter under Pitso Mosimane, and the Springbok Women are also trying out new combinations against Italy. Then there’s a particularly big night for South African boxing, while the SPAR Proteas have already booked their place in the Africa Netball Cup final.

Here are five South African sporting moments to watch this weekend.

The Springboks Take on the Wallabies

The Springboks head into their final Test before the second leg of the Nations Championship in November when they face Australia at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Rassie Erasmus has made a massive 13 changes to the starting XV, creating another opportunity for players to make their mark in the green and gold.

A New-Look Springbok Women Side Faces Italy

The Springbok Women are also in action this weekend, taking on Italy in their second WXV Global Series match on Saturday.

There will be a very different look to the team that faced Wales in their tour opener, with several changes made to the starting line-up.

Unam Tose returns at scrumhalf and will share the captaincy with Sizo Solontsi. It will be the first time both players have captained the Springbok Women in a Test, although Solontsi has previously led the Springbok Women’s Sevens team.

Pitso Mosimane Begins His Bafana Bafana Era

Bafana Bafana begin their latest chapter under Pitso Mosimane this weekend when South Africa take on Guinea in the opening rounds of the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers.

The fixture forms part of a busy start to the qualifying campaign across Groups D to F, with Burkina Faso facing Benin, while Kenya meet Eritrea and DR Congo take on Equatorial Guinea.

For Mosimane, it marks the beginning of another stint in charge of the national team and a chance to get his tenure off to a positive start.

Two South Africans Fight for World Titles in Japan

South African boxing has a major weekend ahead, with Sia Kuse and Ricardo Malajika both set to compete for world titles in Japan on 27 September.

The two fighters will make history by becoming the first pair of South African boxers to contest world championship bouts on the same night in Japan.

The Spar Proteas Are Already in the Final

The SPAR Proteas have booked their place in the Africa Netball Cup final, but they won’t have to navigate a traditional semi-final to get there.

A dramatic late change to the tournament format has scrapped the planned semi-finals, meaning South Africa, as the winner of Pool 1, will meet Uganda, the winner of Pool 2, in Saturday’s final.

The Proteas now have one match standing between them and the trophy.

From Perth to Japan and from the rugby field to the netball court, South African athletes have plenty of opportunities to make headlines this weekend.

So, if you’re looking for some green-and-gold action this weekend, there certainly won’t be a shortage of it.
