The school’s SRC executives visited CHOC to hand over donations collected by learners and see the organisation’s work first-hand.
Cape Town, South Africa (07 October 2026) – A few coins. A packet of sanitary products. An item from home.
For the learners at South Peninsula High School, none of those contributions were too small to matter.
The school’s SRC executives recently visited the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation to hand over donations collected by learners, giving them the opportunity to see the organisation’s work up close and meet some of the people behind the support provided to children and families affected by childhood cancer.
The visit put a face to the reason the school had been collecting donations and left a lasting impression on the learners.
CHOC works to support children living with cancer as well as their families, providing care and assistance during what can be an incredibly difficult time.
The visit was also a reminder that generosity does not always have to come in the form of a huge gesture.
Every contribution collected at school became part of something bigger.
The school thanked every learner who got involved, whether they donated money, sanitary products or other items.
The SRC executives were particularly moved by the love, patience and dedication they saw during their visit, giving them a better understanding of the work that goes into supporting children and families beyond what they may see from the outside.
And the school hopes the relationship with CHOC will not end with the donation handover.
There are opportunities for people to get involved in other ways too, including volunteering time with children and continuing to support the organisation through donations.
The biggest takeaway may have been just how far a small act of kindness can travel.
A coin dropped into a collection. A packet packed into a donation. A few moments given to someone who needs them.
Sometimes, making a difference really can start with something small.
