After a rigorous selection process, some of Africa’s best young footballers are in the UK this week training with the Chelsea FC.
The youngsters, who make up the Africa XI squad, come from South Africa, Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe and came through a series of trials earlier this year to win a trip to Stamford Bridge and play against a team featuring Chelsea legends during their stay in London.
Shield, South Africa’s #1 selling deodorant brand announced a partnership with Chelsea Football Club earlier this year. The champion brands came together to inspire South Africans who are making moves – on and off the field.
To kick-off the partnership, Shield offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity – the chance for a couple of lucky young footballers to spend a day training with Chelsea F.C. coaches at the team’s training ground in Cobham to see what it takes to play like a champion. The lucky fans will also have the opportunity of watching the first team training and meet the team at the Cobham Training Centre too.
This is the soccer experience of a lifetime!
“The partnership aims to inspire young South Africans to understand that achieving success requires you to get up and get moving. Whether it’s waking up at the crack of dawn, training relentlessly or nailing that penalty under pressure. It’s those moments when you rely on Shield. With its superior protection, Shield keeps you dry and odour-free, so that every move you make is one you make with confidence.”
Chelsea are one of the best soccer clubs in the world, representing athletes at the top of their game. Players like Eden Hazard, Victor Moses and Cesc Fabregas are the embodiment of hard work, commitment and absolute dedication.
The group arrived in the capital on Wednesday last week (12 September 2018) and have a jam-packed schedule ahead of them in London with Chelsea FC, where they will taken on to the Stamford Bridge pitch to be presented with personalised Chelsea kit by coaches, will be introduced to the Chelsea FC senior team and will train under the supervision of Chelsea coaches at Cobham.
The players will be a part of Shield Africa XI team to play against a Chelsea Invitational XI on the Main Pitch and you can follow all the action and highlights from Chelsea on our social channels.
Upon their return, one of the three players will be chosen by Orlando Pirates FC to receive a one-year professional contract with Orlando Pirates’ MDC team as a fully-paid professional player.
