Delta Drone Women’s Sevens Rugby team is empowering young women and raising the standard of female rugby in South Africa.

Pretoria, South Africa (14 August 2025) – The Delta Drone Women Sevens Rugby Team NPC is one of South Africa’s most inspiring sporting programmes, producing top-tier female athletes while giving young women opportunities to succeed both on and off the field. Over the past 20 years, the team has produced 33 Springbok women players, alongside many others who have gone on to professional or semi-professional rugby careers.

The organisation supports its players not only through rugby but also academically. They provide scholarships, bursaries, and awards, along with career guidance and educational enrichment for students at the University of Pretoria. Giving a holistic approach, it ensures that players grow as both athletes and individuals.

Participation in local and international tournaments is central to the development of the team. For those studying physical education and sports science, exposure to international events is crucial, giving them experience that strengthens both their studies and future careers. The programme also develops coaches and administrators, building a structure that contributes to South African rugby at every level.

The team is preparing to compete in the FASU African University Cup Sevens from 9–12 October in Kenya. Following recent successes at the Toulon 7’s, Lyons 7’s, and Centrale 7’s Paris tournaments, they are seeking support to cover flights, accreditation, accommodation, transport, and meals, a total of R217,020 for 17 players and staff. The team hopes to bring the trophy back home, following their win as African Champions in 2021.

Delta Drone Women Sevens is more than just rugby. It is a community where young women are encouraged to develop athletic excellence, leadership skills, and life-changing opportunities. Their story demonstrates that with hard work, determination, and teamwork, dreams can be turned into reality.

The team invites anyone who can help to support these young women as they continue to make history, inspire the next generation, and show that women’s rugby in South Africa is strong, competitive, and here to stay.
