The Durban Surf Lifesaving Club’s young athletes delivered standout performances across beach and water events, securing the overall title.

Durban, South Africa (18 March 2026) – Sun, surf, and talent! It’s been a winning combination for Durban’s young lifesavers.

The Durban Surf Lifesaving Club is celebrating a standout performance after its Nippers dominated the 2026 KZN Nipper Championships, going up against clubs from across the province and coming out on top. The team delivered across disciplines. Their efforts didn’t just secure bragging rights, they walked away with the overall trophy, with several young stars also shining in their individual categories.

Among them were standout performances from Indi Gunther (U9 Girls), Ruby Kitto (U10 Girls), Dylan Maujean (U13 Boys), and Hayden Irving (U14 Boys), each named top competitor in their respective age groups.

Set along Durban’s iconic Golden Mile, the club has long been more than just a competitive space. It’s a place where young athletes learn discipline, confidence, and essential water safety skills. Many of these Nippers go on to become qualified lifesavers, playing a key role in keeping local beaches safe. And that is what’s most important for Durban Surf Lifesaving Club.

“While we are immensely proud of the championship result, what matters most is that these children are learning lifesaving skills that could one day help save lives.”

As a registered public benefit organisation, the club relies on ongoing community support to keep its programmes running.

“Every board, every cap and every training session is made possible by the generosity of the community and our members.”

Durban Surf’s future looks just as bright as its coastline.

“This championship shows what is possible when young people are given the opportunity to thrive.”
