Last week was a whirlwind of activity for Egoli Squash Youth Empowerment, as their squash programmes across multiple locations buzzed with energy. Young players from inner-city Johannesburg schools, who wouldn’t otherwise have access to the sport, were allowed to hone their skills, compete, and grow in confidence.

Johannesburg, South Africa (26 March 2025) – Last week was all about smashing barriers, one serve at a time, as the Egoli Squash Youth Empowerment players took on new challenges across multiple squash programmes.

Egoli Squash is all about using squash, fitness, tutoring, community service and mentoring to change children’s lives for the better! From Thursday to Saturday, youth participated in various coaching, training sessions and tournaments.

Part of the activities involved a group of Egoli Gazankulu undergoing an intensive training camp, sharpening their technique and match fitness.

“Some of our rising stars trained at UJ, gaining exposure to top-level coaching and competitive drills,” shared Egoli.

A St. Andrew’s Girls Tournament also saw girls competing fiercely, testing their skills against strong opposition and gaining valuable match experience.

Instead of waiting and expecting the numbers to walk through the door, Egoli is taking squash straight to communities and plays an essential role in making sure squash is accessible to children who attend inner-city Johannesburg schools.

According to the PSA Foundation, without Egoli, who facilitates squash sessions with coaches and courts, these schools would not have squash in their curriculum.

The fun-filled weekend of squash, sportsmanship, and fun aimed at helping young players grow in confidence culminated in a fun Roedean Girls School Festival.

“Every match, every session, every challenge is a step forward! Thank you to our coaches, parents and partners for making this possible.”
