The African Athletics Confederation (CAA) Hall of Fame has just welcomed two new sporting champions, Caster Semenya & Wayde van Niekerk.
Two of South Africa’s biggest athletics stars have been inducted into the African Athletics Confederation Hall of Fame. This is a huge deal for the two but sadly neither were able to attend the event.
The induction ceremony was held at the Event Center in Asaba in Nigeria. Wayde van Niekerk was unable to attend due to his current injury and Caster Semenya is currently competing 21st African Athletics Championships at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Nigeria.
Neither have publically commented on the honour as of yet but South Africa is pretty proud of these two. Other athletes who were inducted into the Hall of Fame include Kenenisa Bekele and Almaz Ayana, both of whom hold world records in the 10 000m. In total, 16 athletes were added to the growing list
We are once again, over the moon with pride and cannot wait to see more of our athletics stars get added to the list.
Great Job! Caster Semenya cruises to victory in Heat 1 of the 400m women’s race in a time of 52.96 and books her spot in the semifinal #Asaba2018 #ChampionsOnTheNiger #GoGirls pic.twitter.com/YsJk0psgwp
