It may have been their first run in the LEC Championships, but the JBay Surf Lifesaving Club’s exceptional performances turned heads, put fierce competition and secured an impressive string of medals!

Jeffreys Bay, South Africa (19 February 2026) – The JBay Surf Lifesaving Club’s first-ever group of Nippers stormed into the Lifesaving Eastern Cape (LEC) Championships for the first time, and they truly meant business!

From the first whistle, the young squad’s talent and skill were on full display. Their exceptional performances brought home an impressive medal haul, including several gold medals and the prestigious U12 Boys Victor Ludorum title, Kouga Municipality reports.

In total, the team secured four gold medals, four silver medals, and four bronze medals

Bronze medal results:

  • Judah Levendal – U12 Run/Swim/Run (3rd place)
  • Lionel Coetzer, Zach Levendal and Judah Levendal – U12 Taplin Relay (Run/Swim/Malibu Board Paddle) (3rd place)

With 12 medals in total, this marks an outstanding debut and signals a bright, promising future for Nipper development at the club.

Beyond the podium finishes, the standout highlight was the visible joy and enthusiasm the sport has brought to the young athletes, with smiles and a strong sense of achievement evident throughout the weekend.

“What a proud moment for the Club. The kky is the limit. Thanks to all of the parents who have been supporting the development of our youth,” JBay Surf Lifesaving Club said.

The Municipality credited these accomplishments to the impact of the NLC Access to Coaching Project, which is facilitated by the Lifesaving South Africa Director of Sport.

More than 144 children from previously disadvantaged areas across eight districts in the country have already benefited from the initiative. By introducing these children to the sport and education of lifesaving, and supporting their development into qualified competitors capable of achieving top results, the project demonstrates the powerful opportunities created through access, mentorship and structured development.
