Jesse Rademeyer is a BMX racing star who lives for the thrill of the sport. Except, his trusted bike was no longer fit for purpose, and a new one he’d been gifted from the USA was just too expensive to ship to SA. But, the outpouring of kindness from 18 kind souls bridged the gap, ensuring the young biker would receive his new bike just in time for his birthday and the upcoming championships!

Strand, South Africa (17 June 2025) – BMX isn’t just a fun pastime for Jesse Rademeyer; he lives for the rush and adventure of the sport, which has seen him not only compete at a national level but also rank second place in South Africa for his age group.

The biking enthusiast has been competing from as young as seven years old; however, since his family moved to South Africa from the United States, getting access to good equipment has posed a significant challenge in the BMX racer’s journey.

According to his father, Pieter, Jesse had outgrown his current bike. And despite continuous upgrades, it wouldn’t be fit to withstand the demands of Jesse’s upcoming run in the 2025 South African BMX Championships.

Fortunately, a friend in the USA gifted Jesse a high-performance bike, but there was yet another snag: the hefty import costs to get the bike to South Africa in time for the race.

Determined to see his son’s dreams come true, Pieter turned to the only other place where he could possibly find help: the kindness and compassion of others.

Through a well-received BackaBuddy campaign, Pieter was able to raise, in just 10 days, over R12,000 needed to help cover the import costs of the gifted race bike from the USA.

With the crowdfunding campaign goal met just in time for the shipping deadline, the funds will ensure Jesse receives the bike in time for his birthday on 20 June, making for an awesome present that will allow him to begin training for the championships!

As a token of gratitude, Pieter further shared that all donor names would be inscribed on the bike in lasting recognition of the support.

The soul-stirring mix of compassion, kindness and generosity has once again touched a life, making a dream come true, a birthday extra special and helping a promising star take another step forward toward etching his name among sporting greats!
