The World Para Athletics Championships have officially come to an end, and Team South Africa made us so proud with their spirit, medals and even a new World Record. Here are the results straight from Paris!
Paris, France (18 July 2023) — The 2023 World Para Athletics Championships in Paris have come to a blazing end with plenty of proud moments for both the para-athletes and supporters all over. From their spirit to the medals and the world record smashes, the World Para Athletic Champs results have us beaming!
The first medal came in as smooth as silver, earned by blind para athlete Louzanne Coetzee for her epic performance alongside guide Estean Badenhorst at the women’s 1500m T11 event.
Not long after, Mpumelelo Mhlongo brought home the first gold for South Africa in the T44 100m, an incredible moment true to the skill of the Paralympic Games record holder.
Mhlongo’s victory was followed by the second gold medal for the season scored by Simone Kruger at the F38 Discus event.
Kruger’s victory was so powerful at 38.1m it broke a World Record!
Bold in bronze, Kerwin Noemdo claimed third place for Team SA in the Men’s Shot Put F46 just before the gold victories—completing South Africa’s podium standings.
As the event that will carry many athletes through to the Paris Paralympic qualifiers, the World Para Athletic Championships now passes the baton onto the next journey: the road to Paralympics!
