The Rare Aware team for Rare Diseases South Africa is getting ready to take on the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg to raise funds for the charity.
South Africa (13 October 2023) – Sporting events and charity often go hand-in-hand as dedicated individuals set their sights on physical pursuits in the name of raising funds for causes close at heart. Rare Diseases South Africa has established a charity team which various athletes can join, to help raise funds for support of rare diseases.
Team Rare Aware is about to take on its first major event, the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg event. Under their banner #Ride4Rare, they hope to get the team registered and start raising funds. To register with the team, find out more here.
Rare Diseases South Africa (RDSA) is a non-profit organisation founded by Kelly du Plessis in 2013. RDSA has tirelessly advocated for recognition, support, improved healthcare services, and an enhanced quality of life for individuals living with rare diseases. Over the past decade, RDSA’s impactful awareness campaigns and initiatives have positively affected more than 1,800 patients. They have worked diligently with governmental departments, industry stakeholders, and strategic partners to raise awareness and advance rare disease policies.
The sports teams will grow to include riders, runners, swimmers and volunteers. Competing in the name of rare diseases not only helps the organisation raise funds, but raises awareness too.
“The Ride Joburg isn’t just about covering distances; it’s about making a tangible difference in the lives of those afflicted by a rare disease.
Challenge yourself! Push your limits and achieve a remarkable physical feat while contributing to a meaningful cause. If you are unable to cycle the 947 please consider donating towards the fundraiser we have set up.
The more we raise the more Rare Warriors we can help through advocacy, patient navigation, research and community engagement.”
