Athletes Prudence Sekgodiso and Tshepo Tshite have made South Africa proud thanks to the new records they set on international indoor tracks!

Liévin, France (17 February 2025) — South African middle-distance athletes Prudence Sekgodiso and Tshepo Tshite made the nation proud from across the pond recently thanks to their time tackling international indoor tracks.

Prudence held her own in Liévin, France at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting like a superstar—quite literally equalling the indoor 800m national record she set herself in Germany’s Karlsruhe where she won—while Tshepo set a new national record of his own.

In Liévin, the female athlete to watch not only clocked a time of 1:59.88 once again; she also went on to scoop second place for her stretch!

What’s remarkable about her 800m record, is that it was set in what just so happened to be her second indoor 800m heat.

This achievement made her the first South African female athlete to shave off enough time to get under the two minute mark indoor style, as Team South Africa proudly shared.

Coming in blazing, Tshepo earned a time of 3:54.10 for the short track mile he undertook in Liévin! Per Athletics South Africa, this clipped a national record that had stood for over two decades as previously set by Clyde Colenso.

The short mile star of SA also managed to nab fifth place with his time in his race, bringing home a new clock for other athletes to beat.
