South Africa’s artistic gymnasts did fantastically at the 18th Artistic African Championships in Morocco over the weekend—claiming podium places across the board and African Champ crowns!
Marrakesh, Morocco (10 May 2024) — South Africa’s artistic gymnasts have relished in many a medal-proud moment recently, thanks to an epic display of teamwork, talent and individual excellence at the 18th Artistic African Championships in Morocco over the weekend.
Here are some of the Podium Moments our Gymnasts Claimed!
Gold:
- Caleigh Anders became the Senior African Champ for her vault skills, making her the senior African Champion
- Kadin Chester claimed gold for floor and won his crown as the junior African Champ
- Syan Du Preez became the junior African Champ for floor after she earned gold
Silver:
- The SA Junior Women’s Artistic Gymnasts team (Syan du Preez, Lily Hayes, Keira Sawry, Jessica Rautenbach and Karmia van Jaarsveldt) took home sliver for their dream teamwork!
- South Africa’s Senior Women Artistic Gymnasts team ( Zelme Daries, Caleigh Anders, Karma Visagie, Shante Koti and Naveen Daries) also claimed silver for their squad skills
- Syan Du Preez shone with silver for her bar and vault finals in the Junior events
- Naveen Davies scored silver for the Senior balance beam final
Bronze:
- Syan Du Preez basked in bronze for her all-around junior competition as well as for her balance beam final
- Zelme Daries claimed bronze for her senior bar display
- Lily Hayeswon bronze for her junior vault event
- Kadin Chester came third for pommel and rings
