South African swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker grabs another astonishing time, breaks the second Olympic Record of her career.
Tokyo, Japan (28 July 2021) – South Africa’s swim sensation Tatjana Schoenmaker performed an amazing feat as she smashed another Olympic record this afternoon.
The 24-year-old participated in the heats of the women’s 200-meter breaststroke. She won the race with a time of two minutes and 19.16 seconds.
On Sunday, Schoenmaker broke USA’s defending champion Lilly King’s Olympic record in the heats of the 100m breaststroke. In the finals of this event, Schoenmaker won the silver medal.
Regarding Schoenmaker, King told Swimming World:
“She swam it a lot like I do. So it’s going to be a dogfight to the finish.”
And she admitted to being surprised by Schoenmaker’s breakthrough performance in the 100-meter event.
“A little bit, not going to lie. But hey, I love competition. I thrive on that so that’s only better for me.”
Schoenmaker will participate in the women’s 200m breaststroke semi-finals tomorrow morning at 04:54 CAT.
Team South Africa has so far won two medals, both silver. Schoenmaker bagged one for the 100-meter breaststroke and Bianca Buitendag the other one for her excellent skills in surfing.
