The Tshwane Women in Sport Awards honoured a host of South African sports stars including tennis legend Kgothatso Montjane and Lara Van Niekerk who were named sportswomen of the year.


Tshwane, South Africa (July 2, 2023)—The Tshwane Women in Sport Awards were underway recently and numerous sportswomen that have made South Africa proud across the board were honoured. Among them, Kgothatso Montjane and Lara van Niekerk were honoured as the Sportwomen of the Year for their epic victories in tennis and swimming respectively.

The event, proudly sponsored by SPAR, welcomed esteemed guests, including renowned sportswomen Caster Semenya and MMC Peggy de Bruin (MMC of Recreation and Social Development) as the women who made us proudly South African were celebrated.

Meet the Winners for 2023!

Sportswoman of the Year

  • Lara van Niekerk (Swimming) – Winner.

Sportswoman of the Year with a Disability

  • Kgothatso Montjane (Tennis).

Winner Most Promising Athlete of the Year

  • Wendy Shongwe (Soccer) – Winner.

School Sports Athlete of the Year

  • Megan Maree (Athletics + Hockey) – Winner.

Most Promising Team of the Year

  • Gauteng North Figure Skating – Winner.

Coach of the Year Individual Sport

  • Moonyean Britz (Boxing) – Winner.

Administrator of the Year

  • Riana Bezuidenhout (Netball) – Winner.

Technical Official of the Year

  • Benita Kleynhans (Swimming) – Winner.

Game Changer of the Year

  • Anne Waldek-Thill (Figure Skating) – Winner.

Sports Programme of the Year

  • Shoshanguve FM – Winner.

Community Media of the Year

  • Garankuwa FM.
