When a stranger named Fae surprised a little girl with a replacement for her stolen sticker book, her family wanted to repay the kindness. Now they’re helping Fae collect food and essentials for her community.

Johannesburg, South Africa (28 October 2026) – This week, a Joburg mom took to Facebook to share her appreciation for a stranger whose kind gesture meant the world to a little girl with a stolen sticker book.

In a neighbourhood group on the social media platform, Tarryn Du Preez went on to share how her young daughter was heartbroken after her book of Stickables was stolen at school.

The family had slowly worked toward getting all 50 stickers. Each sticker is earned with every R200 spent – collecting and swapping them takes time, and costs money. Understandably, the little girl who had nearly completed her collection was disappointed.

Then, in came Fae.

“After my daughter’s Checkers Little Shop Sticky Book was stolen at school, with almost the entire book completed, we were so disappointed. Little did my daughter know that tonight, we were going to collect something that would put the biggest smile on her face!” wrote Tarryn.

Fae reached out to Tarryn and gifted her daughter a sticker book, complete with all the stickers!

“This beautiful human being reached out and gifted my daughter a Sticky Book with ALL the stickers!” Tarryn added. “The excitement, the surprise, and the kindness behind such a thoughtful gesture mean more to me than words can express.”

Tarryn says the kind gesture reminded them that there are still good people out there who care about others and go out of their way to make someone else’s day special.

Her kind gesture has had ripple effects. The family now wants to rally support from the local Randpark Ridge and Weltevreden communities. They want to help Fae in her mission of collecting food and items for families in her community that need a little extra help.

“Fae is collecting non-perishable food items for the Weltevreden community, and I would love to help spread the word about the wonderful work she is doing!” she writes.

Fae accepts donations of school stationery, clothes, toiletries, non-perishable food items and other essentials that could help someone in need. If you’d like to donate, see this post for more details!

“Let’s come together as a community and show that even the smallest acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. You never know what someone else is going through or how much your contribution could mean to them.”
