South Africa’s favourite DIY enthusiast is settling into a new studio, and she marked the occasion by creating a designer-inspired table from plastic bowls, a plastic plate and plenty of creativity.
South Africa (10 June 2026) – A few plastic bowls, a plastic plate and a can of spray paint don’t sound like the ingredients for designer furniture… unless you’re Suzelle DIY.
South Africans have loved Suzelle DIY for more than a decade. Created by Julia Anastasopoulos, the character became an online sensation thanks to her hilarious DIY projects, infectious enthusiasm and famous catchphrase, “DIY… because anybody can!”
In her latest video, Suzelle gives viewers a tour of her new studio before taking on a project that is peak Suzelle. Using plastic bowls, a plastic plate and her trusted “good-quality” spray paint, she creates what she jokingly calls a “designer Italian table”. The result is surprisingly stylish and serves as a reminder of what made Suzelle such a beloved South African character in the first place. She has always had a knack for turning everyday objects into something unexpected, while making audiences laugh along the way.
Beyond Suzelle DIY, Julia Anastasopoulos has built an impressive career as a writer, director and producer, but the character remains one of South Africa’s most recognisable creative exports.
She also joined us on Good Things with Brent Lindeque to chat about creativity, storytelling and the journey behind the character that captured the hearts of South Africans.
Watching Suzelle settle into her new studio feels like a welcome reminder that creativity doesn’t need to be complicated. Sometimes all it takes is a little imagination, some spray paint and the confidence to give it a go… because anybody can.
