A simple donation of cookies and snacks to the Elder’s Voice became the sweetest reminder that even the smallest gestures can bring joy and big smiles to elderly residents who deserve to feel seen and cared for.
Durban, South Africa (02 July 2026) – Sweet treats just make everything better!
One generous donor knew this well and recently decided to share a sweet blessing with Elder’s Voice KZN.
The thoughtful donation came from a member of a store that was preparing to shut down, who arrived with a large bag filled with cookies, chips, chocolates and snacks.
Elder’s Voice member Rosalyn decided the generous donation would make delightful treat bags for the residents. With no suitable bags on hand, Rosalyn and the team made use of the next best thing: Checkers Sixty60 brown bags that were available in abundance at the home.

They quickly got stuck into creating the treat hampers before distributing them, and we can only imagine the smiles on the oumas’ and oupas’ faces when they opened them up to discover something sweet and thoughtful put together just for them.
Elder’s Voice KZN was established to assist in fighting for the rights of the aged, allowing them to live with dignity in their old age. The organisation operates as an elderly community upliftment initiative in Durban and helps keep shared elderly living and home-based care residences running for vulnerable senior citizens.
This recent sweet treat is one of the small yet meaningful ways the organisation continues to provide hope and dignity to the elderly.
Sometimes, it really is the simplest gestures that leave the biggest mark. A bag of treats, a few brown paper bags and a team willing to share kindness became a beautiful reminder that every elder deserves to feel seen, celebrated and cared for.
