Caring for wildlife orphans is a 24/7 commitment, and we’ve found two adorable videos showing rangers going above and beyond their protective duties to help two four-legged friends snuggle into bed for the night!

Mpumalanga, South Africa (04 June 2025) – Being a game ranger is another one of those jobs that is so much more than just a job. Over and above being guardians and protectors who brave the unpredictable wild by day and by night, they also offer care and compassion to the animals they watch over so closely.

This compassion was beautifully captured in two videos shared by Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, showcasing the rangers on duty tucking Hercules and Peggy into bed for the night at the rehabilitation facility, where they are also involved in the overnight care of the orphans still in rehabilitation.

In the footage, one of the rangers is seen soothing Hercules the rhino with much care before he prepares for sleep. Peggy the horse, in the second video, was bundled in a warm winter jacket and given a bottle of milk, ensuring he has a good night’s sleep.

“Compassionate, empathetic and full of pride in their role. A little extra love for Hercules, while Peggy is fitted with her warm winter jacket before the cold night sets in. Caring for orphans is a 24/7 commitment, and it takes a family,” the post was captioned.

Their compassion is so heartwarming that it’s almost tangible! We’re so happy that these animals, especially after being exposed to trauma, get to experience such warmth at the hands of rangers who truly care.

Social media users flooded the post with heartfelt commentary, applauding the rangers for their exceptional dedication and for giving these animals the BEST care!
