Cape Town’s beaches have earned the City the title of ‘Best Beach Destination’ at a recent international celebration!

Cape Town, South Africa (19 December 2024) — It’s another global moment for the Mother City after Cape Town’s beaches have earned the city the title of ‘Best Beach Destination’ in the International Destinations Category at Travel + Leisure India’s Best Awards 2024!

This follows other achievements for Cape Town’s beaches this year, including Boulders, Bloubergstrand and the Cliftons ranking on the World’s Top 100 Beaches and the many local beaches that earned Blue Flag status.

Presented at a gala in New Delhi last week, the latest award celebrated Cape Town’s breathtaking coastline, diverse beach experiences and vibrant culture—all of which have made the city a top choice for travellers.

CEO of Cape Town Tourism Enver Duminy says, “It’s an honour to see our city recognised as a must-visit destination for beach lovers and global adventurers!”

“Whether you’re here for the iconic white sands of Clifton, the surfer’s paradise at Muizenberg, or a sunset picnic at Camps Bay, Cape Town’s beaches have something for everyone.”

With eight Cape Blue Flag beaches recognised for the 2024/2025 season (Bikini Beach, Camps Bay, Clifton 4th, Fish Hoek, Llandudno, Melkbosstrand, Muizenberg, and Silwerstroomstrand), Cape Town’s beaches have also earned eco-friendly prestige; positioning them as an example of beach excellence for other beaches around the world.

In exciting news for the Muizenberg Beachfront, work is set to kick in mid-February next year to improve public spaces and coastal protection, making this much-loved Blue Flag spot even more enjoyable.

“Our beaches aren’t just stunning; they’re essential to our tourism economy. Recognition like this puts Cape Town on the global map and invites visitors to experience the unique charm of our coastline.”—James Vos, Mayco Member for Economic Growth.
