There are no limits to what a driven mind can achieve! Grade 10 SA learner, Tsebo Masentle Mofokeng, is officially taking her seat among the world’s most promising future leaders after being selected for the highly competitive Yale Young African Scholars Programme.
Johannesburg, South Africa (14 May 2026) – We’re celebrating the excellence of Tsebo Masentle Mofokeng, a driven and intellectually curious Grade 10 learner who has earned international recognition after being selected for the highly competitive 2026 Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) programme!
The achievement places her among the world’s most promising future leaders. Hosted by Yale University in the United States, the YYAS programme is renowned for identifying and nurturing exceptional high school students from across the globe.
It is an intensive academic and enrichment programme designed for African secondary school students who plan to pursue tertiary education and wish to make a meaningful impact as young leaders on the continent.
Each year, thousands of applicants from over 40 different African countries compete for a limited number of places, with selection based on academic excellence, leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to making a meaningful impact in their communities.
Tsebo stood out for their outstanding academic record, critical-thinking abilities, and passion for addressing real-world challenges. Her application showcased not only a strong foundation in her chosen field of interest but also a clear vision for how she hopes to contribute to positive change both locally and globally.
During the programme, Tsebo will engage in an intensive academic and leadership experience alongside peers represented from 42 countries.

Reflecting on the achievement, Tsebo expresses excitement about the opportunity to learn from world-class academics and connect with like-minded peers.
“I am immersed with overflowing gratitude to be given this opportunity, from a world class university no less. I’ll be impatiently waiting for what’s to come from such an experience, whether it be broadening my knowledge or polishing new skill sets. I’m ready for the journey ahead,” she says.
A current Grade 10 learner at UCT Online High School, Tsebo credits the school’s flexible and future-focused education for helping her cultivate the independence, discipline, and global outlook needed to succeed on an international stage.
This accomplishment not only highlights her individual excellence but also underscores the growing presence of South African youth in global academic spaces.
A huge well done and congratulations to you, Tsebo! As you prepare to embark on this prestigious journey, you serve as an inspiring example of what can be achieved through dedication, curiosity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
