The global star became only the second South African artist to receive the AfriPure International Achievement Award before inviting artists she admires onto the stage to celebrate with her.
South Africa (17 August 2026) – Tyla had every reason to soak up the spotlight at the South African Music Awards, but instead, she chose to share it.
The 24-year-old star made her SAMA debut on Saturday, 15 August, and walked away with the AfriPure International Achievement Award, becoming only the second South African artist to receive the honour after Black Coffee.
But the night’s most memorable moment came after Tyla accepted her award, when she invited a number of artists she admires, has worked with and looks up to onto the stage to celebrate alongside her.
The stage filled with artists from different parts of the South African music scene.

Tyla also took a moment to thank South Africans for continuing to support her and for being part of her journey as her international career continues to grow.
“I am inspired by you guys everyday.”
The SAMAs, held at the Sun City Super Bowl in the North West, brought together some of the country’s biggest names in music and entertainment for an evening of performances, celebrations and major accolades.
Hosted by Casper Nyovest and Zanele Potelwa, the ceremony celebrated another year of South African musical talent.
But Tyla’s decision to bring others into her moment made her historic win even more meaningful.
