Bilbo, who stayed by the side of his unconscious owner for two whole days without food or water… now has a new forever home thanks to a loving family.
Cape Town, South Africa – You may recall the incredibly special story we shared a while ago about this loyal little dog. Bilbo – as the SPCA named him – stayed by his homeless owner’s side for two whole days while his owner lay ill awaiting help.
Thankfully his owner was collected and taken to a hospital for treatment, but Bilbo was left behind, and the SPCA was called to assist him.
“A homeless man had sadly been found unconscious on a sidewalk in the Parow area having lain there for two whole days. When someone finally noticed that he was clearly gravely ill, an ambulance was called to take this poor soul to a hospital for urgent medical attention.
During this time a security guard patrolling the area had noticed a small, black dog patiently stationed by its owner – the dog had not moved for two whole days and stayed by his owners’ side while he was immobile – not even hunger could persuade this loyal companion to leave his master.
The security guard, not knowing where the ambulance had taken the man, asked the SAPS to help the dog and it was taken to the nearest vet.”
With help from many devoted fans of Bilbo, the SPCA tried to find his owner contacting EMS and local hospitals, as well as canvassing the area to see if anyone recognised Bilbo. After an exhaustive search for his owner, the trail sadly ran cold, and they have not been able to reunite Bilbo with the owner he clearly loved so very much.
They then asked the public to help them find Bilbo a forever home. Today they shared the happy news that Bilbo now has a new forever home to call his own.
