Have you heard of the Wednesday Waffle? It is reconnecting friends and families around the world through wholesome catch-ups each week.

South Africa (20 August 2025) – Nearly two years ago, one of my best friends moved overseas and into a new time zone, making it quite hard to connect like we used to. That was, until she shared a reel by a group of guys explaining the concept of the Wednesday Waffle. The very next Wednesday, our friends started filling our group with videos about their week. Not only did we start connecting across the globe, but we got insights into friends’ lives who were just down the road but too busy to see in person.

Over the past few months, every Wednesday, we all catch up, sharing triumphs, random tales of adventures and struggles being felt.

These videos have become a great source of enjoyment for all and a way to stay connected in the humdrum of life and all its business.

For my friend, it is her very favourite day of the week, where she gets to see our faces, hear our stories and share her own experiences of living life in a foreign country.

The thing is, this concept isn’t only changing how we communicate as friends, it’s changing things for families all over the world.

“Emm“, a South African living abroad, shared how the concept has been equally as meaningful for her family and created a video of all the times her family have connected since moving away. It’s a goosebumps video that is trending and highlights this wonderful concept beautifully!

The reason the idea is so special is that you get this snippet into the lives of the people you love the most. You can record your video, share and watch them as they come in or in your own time. For me personally, I play each video as they come in, responding privately to each friend when I am done.

It’s meaningful. It’s powerful, and it’s reconnecting us in a wholesome way.

So… if you have not waffled yet, now is your chance to get recording. Happy Wednesday, Waffle, everyone!
