Nature is our shared home, and looking after it starts with us. Every little change can add up to something greater. Your actions – even the simplest of them – matter now more than ever!
South Africa (28 June 2026) – WWF South Africa has set itself a really ambitious goal for 2030. The organisation wants to help protect and restore five million hectares of land and sea, improve the lives of five million people, and help direct R50 billion towards projects that are good for nature.
It’s a big vision. A wonderful one. The organisation is working towards it alongside communities, farmers, fishers, businesses, investors and government partners across the country.
But achieving those goals won’t happen through ‘big players’ alone.
Real change depends on ordinary people, like you and I. The small choices we make every day matter more than we often realise, and when millions of South Africans make better choices together, those actions can have an incredible impact.

Many of us have started thinking of nature as something ‘out there’ – somewhere we visit on holiday, hike through on weekends or watch in documentaries. The truth is that nature isn’t separate from us at all. It’s a vital part of every single one of our daily lives, and we need to start thinking about it in that way to truly make an impact.
It’s in every glass of water we drink, the food we eat, the air we breathe and the places we call home. Without healthy ecosystems, life as we know it wouldn’t exist.. Nature is worth celebrating, but it’s also something worth protecting.
That brings us back to the WWF and its goal…

The organisation has launched its Nature Is Our Home campaign. It encourages South Africans to reconnect with the natural world and to remember that people and nature are not separate. It invites all of us to see nature as the foundation of our wellbeing, our communities and our future.
It’s also about helping close the gap that many people feel between themselves and the environment. When we begin to see nature as our shared home rather than somewhere ‘else’, looking after it becomes a natural part of everyday life.
After all, this is the only home we all share.

And while none of us can solve the world’s environmental challenges alone, every single action, big and small, counts. Together, our daily choices can help protect incredible natural heritage for many generations to come.
Here are five easy ways to do so.
At Home
Choose seasonal fruit and vegetables when you can, support local farmers, save water, recycle your waste and, if you have space, plant an indigenous flower or shrub to give birds, bees and butterflies a helping hand.
At Work
Ask questions about your workplace’s environmental practices. Sometimes positive change starts with one person suggesting a better way of doing things.
In Your Community
Join a local clean-up, conservation group or citizen science project. Looking after a nearby river, beach, wetland or park helps protect nature where you live.
As a Citizen
Use your voice. Support decisions and leaders who recognise the importance of protecting South Africa’s natural environment for future generations.
Through Your Choices
Whether you’re shopping, investing or making business decisions, support products, services and organisations that care for both people and the planet.
