There is hope for the fight against hunger for those most in need among us when real-life heroes armed with gloves, hair-nets and aprons come together to pack thousands of meals to alleviate their suffering.

Boksburg, South Africa (23 May 2025) – In an inspiring display of community spirit, the Humanity Foundation, together with Rise Against Hunger, have once again joined forces for good in the pursuit of addressing the needs of those in need.

The two charities embarked on a food packing project this past Saturday at Voortrekker Hoërskool in Boksburg.

Shedding light on the initiative and the powerful partnership was Humanity Foundation’s Tania Marneweck, who said that the organisation sought to support one of Rise Against Hunger’s many impactful initiatives, the ECD Connect programme.

The joint food-packing project raised awareness of the wonderful work that Rise Against Hunger does and also got Humanity Foundation community volunteers, learners and the beneficiaries of the Urban Humanity Feed project to pack an incredible 27,648 pre-prepared meals for the destitute, to be distributed by both charities.

“Our aim was to pack 26,000 food parcels, but we ended up with more volunteers than needed (97 volunteers from the community), and because of their selflessness, we managed more than what was expected,” a delighted Tania explained.

Through Humanity Foundation and Rise Against Hunger’s collaborative efforts, they not only demonstrated the strength and effectiveness of organisations working together towards a common goal but also provided thousands of nutritious meals, immediately alleviating hunger and its associated challenges for vulnerable individuals.

Looking forward, the organisations hope to do another drive later on in the year at a school in Benoni.

“Get ready, Benoni, as the Humanity Foundation is bringing Rise Against Hunger to Ekurhuleni and hopes to get more corporates involved in the future with this noble yet spectacular cause,” Tania said.
