Plastic disposable razors are sneaky troublemakers for the planet. Knowing that no clean shave was worth plastic problems, this beauty guru stepped up to create a biodegradable solution!
South Africa (13 August, 2023) — When Tzvia Hermann learned how much waste plastic disposable razors are responsible for, she knew no clean shave was worth it. So, she stepped up to create a biodegradable solution and the first biodegradable razors of their kind in South Africa.
Tzvia has been on an eco-journey since lockdown, after she watched several documentaries that made her sensitive to the environment’s plight.
“I was glued to ‘Down to Earth with Zac Efron’ and ‘My Octopus Teacher’ and ‘Sir David Attenborough’s A Life on Earth’,” she shares.
“Seeing how the planet responded to human beings being locked down inspired huge changes in my life and business,” Tzvia adds.
Thanks to that wake-up call, Tzvia’s role in the beauty business is now underpinned with eco-consciousness, and one of her pride and joy moments also happens to be a big move for South Africa thanks to the razor innovation.
Wait, Even My Razors Impact the Planet?
Yes! Plastic disposable razors are one of the biggest culprits when it comes to plastic pollution. Even though the impact of plastic is heavily spotlighted in eco-conscious communities, disposable razors often get lost in the single-use plastic conversation.
The biodegradable razors come to the rescue for those who can’t afford non-disposables as well as beauty and laser clinics that need single-use products for obvious hygiene reasons.
Dubbed the BeauRaze, Tzvia’s biodegradable razors are made from wheat material. They’re set to shake up salons, clinics, medical institutions and pharmacies so that razors do what they’re meant to do: take away, not add stress (to the planet or us).
Her products will help add new biodegradable solutions to plastic problems; especially in an industry like beauty where waste is highly prevalent in sneaky ways like packaging.
Of South Africa’s sustainable future, Tzvia shares that we’ve all got a responsibility.
“I want to see improved measures from our government, but I’m not going to sit back and do nothing in the meantime. SMEs and individuals can make change, demand change and put pressure on each other and large companies and the government to make the necessary [environmental] changes. We just need to stick together.”
