If you’re keen to learn about cool sea creatures and help protect our oceans, the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join its upcoming 6-day course.

Cape Town, South Africa (16 January 2025) – You’re never too old or too young to change one thing and make a positive difference! If you happen to be a lover of the ocean and all its magnificent inhabitants volunteering at the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation may just be up your alley – or wave, in this case!

The ocean conservation organisation is currently looking for volunteers to join its six-day volunteer course which will begin on Saturday, 1 February.

You don’t need any prior experience or qualifications to become a volunteer, making it the perfect opportunity for people who want a taste of what their future career in marine science may hold or for those who simply want a hobby that keeps them in touch with the ocean.

How the course works

The course combines online theory, engaging hands-on sessions, and weekly assessments. Experienced marine science educators from the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation will guide volunteers throughout the programme.

“Topics covered are useful outside the Aquarium and as a volunteer – you’ll learn all about life on South Africa’s rocky shorelines, the differences in life between our two oceans, and the incredible array of seaweeds and invertebrates that live around the Cape Peninsula,” the foundation explains.

“Once your course is completed and you’ve passed the assessments, you may volunteer on the floor with aquarium visitors, educating them on the animals and plants found along the coastline.”

Whether turtle conservation has your heart or marine biology piques your interest, keen volunteers will get to tap into the wonders of marine life and become a champions of the ocean!
