On February 15th, International Childhood Cancer Day, thousands will join the “Big Walk for Little Warriors,” a nationwide initiative by Lions Multiple District 410.

Alberton, South Africa (17 January 2025) – Thousands of Lions and fellow supporters across the country, beyond the borders, will lace up their trainers to embark on the highly anticipated Big Walk for Little Warriors taking place on International Childhood Cancer Day, 15 February 2025.

The event aims to raise awareness and funds for children battling cancer and is an initiative of the Lions Multiple District 410, which includes South Africa, Namibia, Eswatini and Lesotho. Lions throughout this region will embark on these walks in support of many brave little ones and their families.

This initiative aligns with Lions International’s commitment to community service and aims to increase community awareness of early warning signs of childhood cancer, thereby improving the chances of successful treatment.

“Last year was the first time we had the Big Walk for Little Warriors and 28 events were held throughout the Multiple District, with 62 clubs participating and R126,000 donated to various childhood cancer organisations,” shares Alberton Lions Club Vision Chairperson, Sandy King.

This year, Alberton Lions are partnering with Kids Kicking Cancer which helps the children deal with the scariness of their situation, as well as Stepping Stone Hospice Paediatric Palliative Care Unit.

Clubs throughout the multiple districts will also be supporting CHOC, Nicus Lodge, Rainbows and Smiles, local hospices and other childhood cancer organisations.

“By helping these organisations, we hope to ease and improve the lives of the little warriors battling the disease, as well as supporting their families,” Sandy adds.
