Inspired by her nephew’s lessons, this 72-year-old grandmother decided it was time to stop making excuses and embrace a new challenge of learning how to swim!
Gqeberha, South Africa (22 January 2025) — You’re never too old to learn something new or live life to the fullest. So, we’re throwing out that notion and old adage that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Helping us do that is an incredibly inspiring gogo who recently took up swimming lessons!
At the golden age of 72, this grandmother from Gqeberha decided it was time to stop making excuses or spectating from the poolside and turn her lifelong dream into reality.
According to Blues Training Academy, where she has her swimming lessons, the grandmother was inspired to dive into the pool and learn how to swim after taking her nephew for lessons.
Images shared on social media showcase the grandmother’s can-do attitude and enthusiasm to master the pool, completely unfazed by her age. She serves as a lesson to us all to embrace new experiences and pursue activities that make us feel alive, regardless of something as meagre as age.
“Gogo has always been a woman of incredible determination and heart,” the swimming academy said.
“Gogo’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to try something new, embrace a challenge, or follow your dreams. Her courage and enthusiasm inspire everyone who hears her story, proving that age is just a number when you have the will to succeed.”
The news of her bold move and newfound joy in the water has been met with a lot of love online, with even one person expressing how they have been motivated to learn how to swim as well. Gogo, you’re a true inspiration in our books!
