In celebration of “Orgust” and raising awareness about organ donation, TELL will be hosting its 2nd Padel tournament in aid of saving lives.
Johannesburg, South Africa (29 June 2025) – What do organ donation, unicorns, and padel have in common? If you’re thinking “probably nothing,” you clearly haven’t met Zane the Zunicorn or the team behind TELL’s annual charity Padel FUNdraiser.
Last year, TELL (Transplant Education for Living Legacies) served up something truly special, a high-energy, unicorn-themed tournament that raised over R20,000 for organ donation awareness. With colourful courts, free kidney screenings, a unicorn mascot, and a whole lot of heart, the event was a perfect blend of fun and purpose. Now, the paddle bats are being dusted off again, and the 2025 tournament promises to be even bigger.
Set for Saturday, 2 August at Jozi Padel in Magaliessig, the second annual TELL Padel FUNdraiser is more than a sports day; it’s a rally cry to Share Your Spare.
This year’s tournament offers something for everyone: seasoned players (Level 2 and up), casual enthusiasts, and now, even total beginners. The aim? To smash misconceptions around organ and tissue donation and get more South Africans talking about this life-saving cause, all while having a blast on the court.
Zane the Zunicorn, TELL’s beloved mascot, will return to charm the crowds and gently introduce families to the concept of organ donation. Through Zane’s story, where a Zebra shared his spare leg to help his Unicorn friend live fully, kids (and adults) learn that giving the gift of life doesn’t have to be scary.
TELL’s work is rooted in real numbers: one in eight South Africans has kidney disease, and yet, we have one of the lowest rates of organ and tissue donation in the world. Events like this help change that by using sport, laughter, and community to educate, inspire, and connect.
So whether you’re swinging like a pro, trying padel for the first time, or just coming along for the unicorns and good vibes, come join the movement.
It’s fun. It’s fitness. It’s the future of health education.
Let’s raise our paddles and our voices, and SHARE OUR SPARE.
