Showmax just dropped the trailer for Khaki Fever and it’s equal parts laugh-out-loud funny and dangerously thirst-inducing.
South Africa (05 August 2025) – If your guilty pleasure includes a mix of khaki, chaos, and chiselled jawlines… you’re in for a very wild ride. Showmax has just dropped the trailer for its latest original film, Khaki Fever, and it’s hilarious, a little outrageous, and, let’s be honest, a lot spicy.
Yes, it’s raunchy. Yes, it might leave some viewers clutching their pearls. But also yes, we’re absolutely here for this lekker local comedy that’s proudly South African, totally off-the-wall, and unapologetically entertaining.
Set in a game lodge with more sexual tension than a summer school romance, Khaki Fever follows a group of rugged game rangers who set up a season-long challenge: whoever manages to hook up with the most tourists wins the ultimate prize… the title of “King of Khaki” and the losers’ combined tips. They have just one problem, though: standing in their way is Anel, the no-nonsense lodge manager, who’s made it very clear: if you get caught with a guest, you’re out. Fired. Finished. Klaar.
“Khaki fever is what happens when lonely tourists see ripped game rangers get out of their 4×4 in their khaki kortbroek,” explains director Brett Michael Innes. “If you’ve ever been to a bushveld game lodge, you’ve seen it first-hand. So this is a story about wild animals and wilder rangers.”
But this isn’t Brett Michael Innes‘ first rodeo. His career took off at Silwerskerm back in 2015 with Sink, and Fiela’s Child followed in 2019. Both scooped SAFTAs. But this time around, he’s swapping the deep emotional storylines for something a little… cheekier.
“I directed a short film for Silwerskerm last year that was about a sleep-deprived mother who was ready to kill her colicky baby,” Brett says. “So I wanted this one to be the polar opposite in terms of tone. This is a Friday night film, a funny and sexy safari escape with your friends after a long week.”
He co-wrote Khaki Fever with his husband, Nick Ahlers. Yes, the couple who write together, produce together, and still manage to laugh through it all.
“They say you shouldn’t work with animals or your life partner but we did both of these things and are still happily married,” says Nick. “We’re already writing the next feature, so watch this space.”

The trailer also features an original theme song by SAFTA nominee Loki Rothman, but the real earworm? Lekker Ding by Biggie. We haven’t been able to get it out of our heads since watching the trailer… and we’re not mad about it. Khaki Fever will have its world premiere at the Silwerskerm Festival at The Rotunda, The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay on Friday, 22 August 2025, with a second screening on Saturday, 23 August. Tickets are available on Quicket. And if you can’t make the festival? No worries… it lands on Showmax on Friday, 5 September 2025. Right in time for you to kick off spring with some laughs, a bit of mayhem, and a lot of shirtless safari drama.
