Dewald Brevis is stepping out of the “Baby AB” shadow after setting a brilliant record in the Proteas’ second T20I against Australia.

Darwin, Australia (14 August 2025) – Here is a young South African who has displayed an incredible performance on the global stage, a performance worth knowing about. Dewald Brevis, widely known by his nickname “Baby AB” (nicknamed after the legendary AB de Villiers), has become the youngest ever South African to score a century in a T20 International match, earning him the Player of the Match award. And this was not just any century, but a commanding, unbeaten 125 runs that will be remembered for years to come.

This was not an easy stroll on the crease for Dewald. South Africa found themselves in a tricky position at 44 for two in the fifth over. Things changed when Dewald stepped in at number four. From there, he produced an innings of remarkable power and composure, proving that pressure brings out his best.

By the time his bat was down, Dewald had broken Faf du Plessis’ record for the highest T20I score by a South African. Surpassing the previous mark of 119 and firmly claiming the top spot for himself.

Dewald’s rise to this moment has been swift and exciting. Making his professional debut in 2021 at just 18 years old, he immediately drew attention as a future star. Since then, he has been a key figure for the Titans and a player whose style and talent have invited comparisons to his idol, AB de Villiers.

This latest performance achieved in Darwin, which also played a huge role in South Africa’s victory, reinforces why Dewald has been tipped for greatness since his first appearances. With his technical skill, Dewald is not only living up to the hype, but also proving he is setting new standards and stepping out of the ‘Baby AB’ shadow to carve his own name.
