St Andrew’s School for Girls unite to create a powerful, brand new warcry celebrating the Springbok Women as the true Queens of Africa
Johannesburg, South Africa (21 August 2025)- Fresh from exam halls and with just days left in the term, the learners of St Andrew’s School for Girls showed that passion and school spirit do not take a break for tests. In a vibrant display of creativity and pride, they came together to support the Springbok Women’s rugby team, and they did it with style, writing an entirely new war cry just for them.
The inspiring lyrics were by Grade 12 student Nelisiwe Shelembe, capturing the energy, determination, and pride that these young fans feel for their national heroes. Phrases like “Positivity all the way, we come second to none” and “Springbok roar, we run this town” roar with confidence and belief. The girls call the Springbok Women “Queens of Africa,” a fitting tribute to the athletes representing our nation on the world stage.

The warcry video, filmed beautifully on the school sports field, is a joyous celebration of teamwork, spirit, and girl power. Watching these students chant and cheer together, you cannot help but feel the excitement that ripples over from their energy. It’s the kind of passion that might just inspire the next generation of Springbok Women.
Our national women’s rugby team faces Brazil in their opening match of the 2025 Rugby World Cup in England on 24 August, and thanks to the creativity of these learners, they will hear the echo of support from home.
A beautiful reminder that spirit, creativity, and belief in our champions can be powerful. Queens of Africa? Absolutely!
