It started with a viral moment in 2016. Now, almost a decade later, Rudi Smit continues to redefine what dance can look like.

Western Cape, South Africa (24 August 2025) – Some performances don’t just entertain, they lift you. They remind you what creativity looks like when it takes on wings and soars. That’s exactly what choreographer Rudi Smit and the Untimitive Dance Company have done with their latest routine, set to Lady Gaga’s emotional ballad 1000 Doves.

Smit, a name that has become synonymous with viral dance brilliance, has once again managed to capture the magic of music and movement in a way that resonates far beyond the stage.

For many, the first time Rudi Smit’s name popped up was in 2016, when his electrifying routine to Meghan Trainor’s Me Too sent the internet into a frenzy. The video climbed past a million views in just a matter of days, catching the attention of audiences around the world… and even Trainor herself, who couldn’t resist sharing the clip with her own fans.

That breakout moment catapulted Smit into international recognition, and he’s been on a roll ever since. Whether it was unforgettable choreography to Beyoncé’s hits or the fiery moves that accompanied Tyla’s “Water”, Smit has proven time and again that he doesn’t just choreograph dances, he creates moments.

Now, the spotlight turns to Lady Gaga’s 1000 Doves. It’s a track that carries both vulnerability and strength and Smit’s interpretation honours every note. With 31 dancers dressed in grey, the Untimitive Dance Company transforms the stage into a canvas. Every step, lift and formation feels like brushstrokes painting Gaga’s soaring lyrics into motion.

The effect is captivating: the dancers rise and fall like doves in flight, their synchrony reflecting not only discipline but deep emotional connection to the piece.
