World No. 1 takes on World No. 2 in a historic showdown where rivalry, pride, and legacy collide
Auckland, New Zealand (05 September 2025) – The stage is set, the crowd is ready, and rugby’s most storied rivalry is about to come alive once more. This weekend, the Springboks take on the All Blacks at the iconic Eden Park in Auckland. A venue that is steeped in history and the home of the game’s most celebrated team.
A little different for South African fans this time around, who will be watching the game while having breakfast instead of a braai, with kick-off being at 09:05 on Saturday morning. Regardless of the time adjustments, it’s the ultimate showdown! World No. 1 New Zealand is hosting South Africa, facing the hosts who have dominated for decades. The Boks arrive with confidence, having bested New Zealand in their last encounter, and carrying the weight of years of rivalry, history, and bragging rights.
This is rugby at its finest! A clash where skill and strategy will be tested for all 80 minutes. Every play counts, and it’s the small details that could tip the balance between victory and heartbreak. After their recent win against the Wallabies, it is suggested that the South Africans could be playing an aerial game once again. The victory also means the Springboks are brimming with confidence, ready to take on the next challenge.
Preparation recently wrapped up. The Boks completed their on-field preparations with the traditional captains’ run at Eden Park, leaving no stone unturned. Jesse Kriel stepping into the leadership role even with Siya Kolisi’s presence, reflected on the responsibility with humility and pride.
“It speaks volumes about what a leader and team man Siya is. We all know he is the team captain, but as I’ve said before, this group is filled with leaders in each position, so although this is a massive privilege and I’m really proud, we remain a team.”
