The SPCA Randfontein and Westonaria swooped in to help after receiving concerns about a family whose home had tragically burned down, leaving the pets in poor condition.

Randfontein, South Africa (25 September 2025) – In times of tragedy, a little compassion can truly make a difference in helping people heal and rebuild. Recently, a family in the Randfontein area faced the heartbreaking loss of their home to a fire, leaving them in a state of distress and their beloved pets in need of care.

When the concerning news of their circumstances reached Cadet Inspector Molobi of the SPCA Randfontein and Westonaria, he set Cadet Inspector Molobi set out to assess the fragile situation firsthand.

What Molobi found was heartbreaking.

“A family in distress, with their four dogs,” the SPCA reported.

“Recognising their current inability to meet all the animals’ needs (something they struggled with even before the fire) the family made the selfless decision to sign over two of their dogs to us. These dogs will now have the chance to find loving, stable homes where their needs can be fully met.”

To support the family and the two dogs that remained in their care, Inspector Molobi left food and feeding bowls to help ease the immediate burden as they work to rebuild their lives.

SPCA Randfontein and Westonaria will continue to closely monitor the remaining two dogs to ensure their welfare is never compromised.

What they have done and will continue to do for this family and its dogs is not just heartwarming but demonstrates compassion in action at a time when they simply couldn’t support themselves.

We hope all the doggos soon return to good health and that a sense of stability and normalcy is restored for this family, who were simply dealt a bad hand.

The SPCA credited the support of its generous donors for making this vital work possible.

“Without your donations, we simply couldn’t reach those who need us the most. Please consider donating to support our Inspectorate Team so we can continue being there in times of crisis.”
