A random act of kindness turned a woman’s desperate day into a moment of overwhelming joy when the adored South African philanthropist BI Phakathi offered her “coffee”, which came with so much more than she could have ever hoped.
South Africa (01 October 2025) – When one woman was casually going about her day, carrying the invisible weight of worry about what her family would have to eat that day, she never could have imagined how her silent and desperate needs would be met when a stranger offered her coffee or chocolate.
A video shared by faceless philanthropist, BI Phakathi, shows him approaching and greeting the destitute woman on crutches before randomly offering her the option to choose between a gift of a cup of coffee or a chocolate bar.
Though she admitted that the chocolate would be nice, she went for the coffee, to which Phakathi told her to open the disposable cup. To her surprise, there was no coffee inside but several R200 banknotes instead, instantly bringing a wave of uncontainable emotion from the unsuspecting woman!
“Iyoh. This is a blessing. God is so good,” she said in disbelief.
The woman went on to tell Phakathi that she was just wondering what she and her family were going to eat, as they had not had any food for two days.
In the cup, Phakathi had secretly placed R3,000 just for her. He offered her even more as she thanked him over and over, in complete awe of the kindness and generosity she’d received from a chance encounter.
She even asked to hug Phakathi, thanking him for blessing her with the means to buy food and feed her loved ones.
The now viral video has South Africans chopping onions, reacting to the beautiful moment, brimming with kindness and humanity.
“That ‘Yoh’ is authentic. That doesn’t come on any day but on surprising occasions. Bless you, BI and the lady,” commented Sphamandla Ngubane.
