St Andrews College in Grahamstown has been hosting events all week for bullying awareness, the best one was a flash mob of superhero’s sharing an important message.
The St Andrews College bullying awareness campaign started on Friday the 17th of March at the school. It started with an assembly and the schools headmaster officially opening the ‘Bullying Awareness Drive’.
On Monday the 20th of March the school hosted Emma Sadleir, a social media law expert, who spoke to the teachers and parents about online bullying. She also addressed the grade 10’s to 12’s the very next day, to bring them up to speed about what is appropriate online.
The rest of the week was filled with talks and seminars about bullying but the event that really got everyone talking was a surprise flash mob during one of the lunch breaks.
“As part of the Bully Awareness Drive, the College and DSG Drama Department performed a flash mob after lunch today. A great initiative by Mr. Deintje and his team.”
The above caption was posted on the St Andrews College Facebook page along with the photo of the flash mob, which consisted of a group of students all dressed up as super hero’s and holding up signs that said,
“In a world full of bullies, be a hero”
The message is important, don’t be a bully and also help those that are scared, to be brave and to report their bully, never let them stand alone.
Members of the staff and many students all took a pledge to help the school become a bully-free zone. The way that they took the pledge was by stamping their thumb print on the sign and signing their names.
