The plea of a hardworking mother was answered. Children who once went to bed hungry are now fed. All thanks to a community that chose to stop scrolling and start acting. The result? A mountain of groceries that is now seeing this family through their toughest chapter.
Randburg, South Africa (17 April 2026) – When a mother and her two children found themselves with very little, starving and in desperate need, they turned to People4Purpose NPC.
It wasn’t that the mother wasn’t trying; she works tirelessly. Yet, on most days, putting food on the table remains a challenge. After a long day, she reached out to the charity with a heartfelt plea for food, leftovers, anything that could help her children go to bed with full stomachs and wake up to a new day.
She even opened up about resorting to using firewood to save on electricity and was willing to work a part-time job on Saturdays to earn extra income. For her, making ends meet and providing the bare necessities was the main priority – but she was struggling to keep her household afloat on her own.
People4Purpose had supported her before, providing assistance that helped her secure her current job. But when she knocked on their door again, even their resources were stretched very thin.
On Wednesday, the charity shared her family’s circumstances on social media. Almost immediately, a new chapter began in their story of hardship.
Within less than a day, grocery donations poured in from supporters moved to help. Rice, mielie meal, milk, eggs, cereal, tinned foods, bread, vegetables, and much more were bought and delivered through the generosity of compassionate South Africans who chose to stop scrolling, read about a hardworking mother’s plight, listen to their inner calling to help, and act.

Cupboards that once stood empty are now filled with an abundance of food. Children who once went to bed hungry now have a variety of nourishing meals to choose from. A heartbroken mother working hard with little to show for it, now supported during a time of personal difficulty.
“It’s hard to find words for the outpouring of care, kindness, and support from a genuinely selfless community after my appeal last night for a mom and her two small children. THANK YOU TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE. The gas cylinder and stove have been arranged. Rent is up to date. Transport costs are covered. Toys for the girls have been sorted. We even managed to prepare a food hamper for another family. Without you, none of this would be possible,” People4Purpose expressed and thanked online.
Thank you to every compassionate heart that helped transform this family’s (and another’s) circumstances in the most heartfelt way!
