I Have A Name shared an update about Moses the Doll Maker. A group of woman helped him set up his small business and they are helping change his company!
If you ever spot our ‘I Have A Name’ posts you will know the photographer of the site tells people stories so well. Every once in while the anonymous but super talented photographer writes a story that is so moving it mobilises the reader and they come together to make life changing opportunities.
In September 2016 the writer/ photographer for ‘I Have A Name’ (IHAN) found out about Moses and shared his story. Quickly his story caught the attention of the pages reader and people came together to help Moses set up a small business.
” I had polio when I was 8, and have to get around on crutches, which makes using public transport like trains difficult. That is why I use taxis to get to Orange Farm where I live. I have a wife, and two kids – a little girl of 4 and an 8 month old baby boy.”
Moses used to work as a factory tailor for years but the pay was not good and often ever arrived. After a while Moses left his job as it cost more to travel to work than what he was making. He took what he had and started his own small business making dolls.
” I went to downtown Jo-burg and visited many different shops in search of patterns. I have collected patterns for a dolphin, giraffe, rhino, monkey, elephant, hippo, teddy-bear, zebra, and a dog. “
People quickly responded to the IHAN post offering help to get Moses set up properly and so he can truly launch his doll business. A group of woman helped him set up a website, get a logo designed, activated a Sage One Accounting package so he could run admin and got him set up with a laptop and tablet.
A woman set up a pop-up store at the The Little Field Mouse Market for Moses and in a matter of 10 days sold R3,000.00 in stock for Moses. You can order dolls from Moses’ website here.
