At 42, one extraordinary woman, Marlise Venter, has been lacing up her running shoes not for a medal, but to conquer 1000km and deliver hope for children with severe disabilities at Pathways.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (25 November 2025) – Inspired by the strength and resilience of children living with severe disability, Marlise Venter has committed herself to an ambitious four-month journey.

The 42-year-old mother of two is currently running 1,000 km to create awareness and raise vital funds for children at Pathways.

Marlise is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children who face extraordinary challenges. The objective of her 1,000 km challenge is to raise funds that will directly benefit the Pathways Centre, ensuring its sustainability, assist in paying school fees for learners in need and make sure no child is left behind.

Pathways is a registered non-profit organisation and a multi-racial, multi-cultural centre with fully trained staff and beautiful premises in Westville. It creates a special place where children with severe disabilities can be educated and stimulated, while giving their parents hope and support.

The facility also serves as the central hub for supporting 84 children and young adults in-house, as well as reaching many more through its various outreach programmes.

Marlise’s physical effort is helping raise broader awareness of the daily challenges children with severe disabilities face and highlighting the incredible work of Pathways.

“I believe every child deserves the chance to reach their full potential. By supporting Pathways, we are not only giving children an education and therapy but also giving families hope. Donate today and change a life forever,” she says.

Marlise has been running since September and is still going strong toward her December finish. She has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Sport for Lives and is hoping to raise R50,000 towards this heartfelt cause that will make a significant difference to so many young lives.

To support Marlise’s 1,000 km run for Pathways, which gives children the chance to thrive, donate to her campaign here.
