Coach Vic has been far more than a coach. He’s been a mentor, a father figure, and an inspiration to generations of boys at St Alban’s College. When he fell ill recently, the entire school community united with open hearts to support him, generously raising funds for his specialised rehabilitation.

Pretoria, South Africa (03 December 2025) – When an urgent plea was sent out regarding a beloved basketball coach, “Coach Vic”, the St Alban’s College Community didn’t just answer; they responded in a huge way for one of their own.

Coach Victor Fouda, a driving force behind the St Albans College basketball programme, fell critically recently, landing in ICU where he fought for his life.

Through outstanding medical care, the prayers of many, and all the support he has received from his family, school and community, he made a miraculous recovery – moving from ICU to High Care, to General Ward and being discharged from the hospital.

However, his medical funds were exhausted and still required more specialised rehabilitation at an appropriate facility to adequately stabilise him after his ordeal.

A BackaBuddy crowdfunding campaign was launched on 24 October by George Aliferis in Coach Vic’s honour to rally support for his medical and recovery costs, which were estimated at R90,000.

And while the goal was to raise R90,000 to cover three weeks of specialised rehabilitation treatment, the community exceeded this target in less than 24 hours. In 11 days, contributions had surpassed R146,000, with donations still coming in to this day!

Coach Vic has been described as far more than just a coach. He’s been a mentor, a father figure, and an inspiration to generations of boys.

“This remarkable response is a testimony to the impact Coach Vic has made in the lives of so many boys, parents, and families across the St Albans basketball community and beyond. Your giving, your messages, and your prayers have lifted him and his family in this critical season,” said George.

167% of funds have been raised to date, and Coach Vic continues to make steady progress. He and his family remain deeply thankful for the ongoing support that is paving the way for his next phase of recovery and rehabilitation.

To everyone who has given to this cause, you have shown what true community looks like, standing together in prayer, generosity, and love.
