Both the South African men’s and women’s netball teams retained their continental crowns after dominant performances in Lilongwe.
Lilongwe, Malawi (15 December 2025) – South Africa once again underlined its dominance on the continental stage as both the men’s and women’s teams were crowned champions at the Africa Netball Cup 2025, which concluded on Sunday in Lilongwe, Malawi.
With a packed Griffin Saenda Sports Complex, the final day delivered exactly what fans had hoped for: high-quality netball, strong atmospheres and commanding performances from the defending champions. For South Africa, it marked a perfect end to the tournament, with both teams remaining unbeaten throughout the competition.
The South African men set the tone earlier in the day, producing a composed and clinical display in the final against Zimbabwe. From the opening whistle, they controlled the tempo, applying pressure through disciplined defence and efficient movement through the court to secure a convincing 40–29 victory.

Head coach Jabulani Vilane praised his side for embracing the responsibility that comes with defending a title.
“To be defending champions is never easy, but the boys understood the responsibility. They did a phenomenal job and stayed unbeaten.”
The women followed suit in emphatic fashion, closing out the competition with a dominant 56–34 win over Uganda in the final. While Uganda showed flashes of physicality and determination, South Africa’s control in the shooting circle and defensive discipline ensured they remained in charge throughout the contest.
Head coach Jenny van Dyk highlighted the importance of preparation and execution, particularly against a side experiencing the tournament for the first time.
“We knew Uganda would make us work all day on the netball court. We knew this game would be won in the circle and we prepared accordingly.”
The SPAR Proteas coach also took a moment to acknowledge the hosts and the atmosphere that carried the tournament to its conclusion.
“Thank you to Malawi for hosting such a fantastic Africa Netball Cup in a wonderful arena. So many people came out to support the game today even without Malawi playing.”
The celebrations continue to unfold, with both teams showing depth and experience.
