After being swept from their den by rising stormwater, a single act of compassion turned into a second chance at life for two tiny, sodden Striped Polecat pups.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (18 December 2025) – Good Things Guy will forever sound the trumpet for everyday heroes. The ones who don’t necessarily wear capes or fight the biggest battles, but who show up for those in need, stand in the gap, make someone’s day or serve others, simply because they’re driven by kindness and humanity.

One such hero is Sosibo, who came across two tiny, helpless Striped Polecat pups that had been flushed out of their den by stormwater during the heavy rains in Dannhauser a week ago.

“Sosibo then contacted FreeMe Wildlife for help, and kept them safe and warm overnight until our team could collect them the following day from the Durnacol Clinic in Dannhauser,” FreeMe Wildlife said.

The Striped Polecat is a nocturnal creature that actively forages throughout the night and retreats to a resting area during the day, typically in a burrow or other crevice. Now in the trusted care of the FreeMe Wildlife team, these two babies are safe and set to thrive.

A recent video captured one of the pups, eagerly chewing on a chicken foot as he enjoyed the newfound joy of having teeth!

The KZN-based wildlife organisation praised Sosibo for saving these creatures when they had no one and their home was threatened by the elements.

“A special thank you to Sosibo for rescuing these two Striped Polecat pups. We need more people like this who care for both people and wildlife. Thank you, Sosibo, we appreciate you.”

The news of the heartwarming rescue struck a chord with many people online who couldn’t help gushing at the adorable black and white pups, as well as admired Sosibo for being their saviour.

“The cutest, thank you for sharing this amazing rescue story, it’s truly inspiring to see people care for wildlife,” Daphne Fisher commented.

While Natalie Hamman also said:

“Aaah! Thank you, Sosibo. Your compassion is heartwarming. You did the right thing! Congratulations.”

We join the many South Africans in celebrating this hero whose selfless act has reminded us that in moments of danger and uncertainty, a pair of willing hands and a kind heart are everything!
