Even amid rising veterinary costs and pet overpopulation this past year, John Moore Animal Welfare continued to push through the trials to show up for the Robertsons’ most vulnerable furry friends.
Robertson, South Africa (06 January 2025) – Animal welfare work is never easy. Poverty, abandonment, rising veterinary costs, and pet overpopulation remain daily realities. Yet still, John Animal Welfare continues to help, heal, and advocate for animals who would otherwise have no voice.
Saving Lives at the Root
Sterilisation remains the cornerstone of John Moore Animal Welfare’s work as it means fewer animals are born into neglect and abuse, communities are safer and healthier, and it eases the pressure on already overwhelmed animal shelters. Thanks to the public’s support, the organisation has been able to tackle the problem at its source.
Despite ongoing challenges over the previous year, John Moore was determined to embrace it as one of action and achievement. In numbers, the team of animal welfare advocates prevented countless unwanted litters by sterilising 353 dogs and cats, administering 1,510 Vaccinations, 982 dewormings, and 1,214 parasite treatments to animals in need in 2025.
Weekly community clinics also provided veterinary care directly to underserved areas in and around Robertson, and thanks to the continued use of their bakkie, safe transport was readily available to and from clinics and surgeries.
“Every number represents a life spared from suffering. Beyond medical care, we focused strongly on education and compassion,” John Moore Animal Welfare shared.
Through education and community outreach, teams shared knowledge on responsible pet ownership, encouraged kindness and empathy towards animals and involved children and families in animal welfare initiatives.
“These moments plant seeds that will grow into a more humane future.”

Reflecting on a year of growth and making a meaningful difference, the organisation expressed its gratitude to its supporters and helpers who make all that they do possible.
“We could not do this work alone. A heartfelt thank you to: Our donors, whose generosity keeps us going, our vets at Cornerstone Veterinary Services, who give their time and expertise to our local businesses and sponsors who believe in our mission. You are the backbone of John Moore Animal Welfare.”
In the new year ahead, John Moore hopes to face challenges with determination and hope. Goals for 2026 include expanding the sterilisation programme, reaching more communities through outreach clinics, strengthening education around responsible pet ownership and securing sustainable funding to meet growing needs.
