South Africa (21 April 2026) – Slipper Day 2026 launched last week to a room filled with incredible people, from Miss South Africa 2026 Qhawekazi Mazaleni and Heidi Giokos to the charismatic and vivacious 18-year-old Zinokhanyo Nyangule, who shared her story as a three-time cancer fighter and two-time dreamer!

Slipper Day is Reach for a Dream’s flagship fundraiser; funds are used to bring seven dreams to life each day. Children with life-threatening, life-limiting and terminal illnesses are asked what their biggest dreams are, and the Reach for a Dream team then works tirelessly to make those dreams a reality.

“This is our 15th year of bringing South Africans together for Slipper Day, inspiring kindness and cosiness in solidarity of children facing life-threatening illnesses. This year we aim to raise R15 million to make dreams come true for the brave children who spend their time receiving treatment in hospitals”, says Reach For A Dream CEO, Julia Sotirianakos.

Dreams are given to children nationwide, ranging from meeting a celebrity hero or flying in a plane to being a vet for a day. This brings moments of hope and joy to children living with illnesses such as organ failure, cancer and heart conditions. In 2025, the Foundation fulfilled a total of 2,510 dreams. You can read some of the incredible dream days we have covered here.

Speaking to the work the foundation does was Dreamer Zinokhanyo Nyangule. She enthralled the audience with her experience of being able to be on TV and how having a dream turned into a reality fills one with hope, often giving them the strength to keep fighting.

“Reach For A Dream has done a lot for me, more than I can imagine. I’ve had cancer three times and it hasn’t been an easy journey.”

“They asked me what my dream is and I said I want to be on TV and they made it happen. That showed me that dreaming is important,”

The highs and lows of her journey had us in tears, feeling touched by her bravery in sharing the struggles of having to fight cancer for a third time, and joy at her utter determination to live life to the fullest, filled with hope and a drive to inspire others.

This year, Slipper Day is all about the Fuzzy Facts… Like, did you know that slippers improve snack decisions by 32%? So next time you open your fridge for a little something and feel disappointed, close the door, step into your fuzzies and try again!

We have also been told that slippers boost patience by 19%, so if you need to take a deep breath to deal with something difficult, pop on those slippers to help you find the patience to get through it.

These Fuzzy facts might not be real facts, but we like to think they are because the world needs more whimsy and slippers sure do make you feel better!

To take part in Slipper Day 2026, just head to any of the sticker stockists, purchase a sticker for R20 and wear your slippers on the 29th of May 2026. You can find stickers at Wimpy, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Baby City, Crocs, Crazy Store, Toys R Us, Babies R Us and Krispy Kreme stores nationwide.
