Walk 6.7km on Woodrock's Farm This Mandela Day!

Woodrock Animal Rescue invites the public to take part in a 6.7km Mandela Day walk that gives back to animals in need!

Hennops River Valley, South Africa (18 June 2026) – This Mandela Day, Woodrock Animal Rescue is calling on animal lovers and supporters to lace up their shoes and take part in its Mandela Day Walk of Giving.

The 6.7km walk takes place across the organisation’s farm and is inspired by Nelson Mandela’s 67 minutes of service.

Set in the Hennops River Valley, the special route gives participants a great opportunity to experience Woodrock Animal Rescue from the inside while spending the day supporting a cause that cares for hundreds of rescued animals.

Along the way, walkers will pass through areas of the farm where more than 500 rescued animals are cared for, including dogs, cats, donkeys, ducks and other farm animals. Each one with its own story of survival and a second chance at life.

At the start of the walk, visitors will be welcomed at the Hope Hub, where donations from the Woodrock Mandela Day Wish List can be dropped off. The organisation is encouraging people to contribute not only new items, but also gently used clothing, blankets, cleaning supplies, household goods, pet food and other essentials from home or the office.

Even small contributions can make a real difference to day-to-day operations at the sanctuary. Woodrock relies entirely on public support to fund rescue operations, sterilisation programmes, medical care, feeding schemes, rehabilitation and rehoming efforts.

Beyond the walk itself, there are also hands-on Mandela Day opportunities across the farm. Participants can help paint kennels, do a bit of gardening, wash blankets, assist with farm maintenance or support clinic and outreach work.

For those looking to get involved in a different way, there is also the option to sponsor a ‘Paw-se Stop’ along the route. These water stations give walkers a place to pause and recharge, while also offering organisations a meaningful way to show support. Sponsorship includes branding opportunities linked to the event!

Woodrock is also calling for support to help strengthen security at the sanctuary following recent break-ins. Sponsorship of fencing panels will go directly towards improving safety for animals, staff, volunteers and the surrounding community.
