On Barbara’s very special day, the staff at the Kloof and Highway SPCA wanted her to know just how appreciated she is, so they got together and sang!

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (08 July 2026) – Barbara Patrick has worked at the SPCA for 18 years. In her time there, her staff have credited her for being an extraordinary leader and a heroine for countless animals.

It was only fitting that on her 60th birthday, her team chose to show love and appreciation for the lady behind so much of what the organisation has achieved.

“Barbara, your dedication to animal welfare has transformed countless lives. Through your passion, determination, courage, and unwavering commitment, you have been a champion for those who cannot speak for themselves. The impact you have had on both people and animals is simply immeasurable,” the SPCA shared.

For eighteen years, Barbara has walked through every rescue, rehabilitation, adoption and every second chance an animal has received. She has witnessed unimaginable abuse and neglect. She has also seen – and demonstrated – how compassionate people show up and fight for animals.

“The animals whose lives you have touched could never truly thank you for all that you have achieved in this lifetime. Thousands have known love, safety, healing, and hope because you refused to give up on them. While they may not be able to say the words, their wagging tails, gentle purrs, and happy endings are a testament to the difference you have made,” the SPCA added.

It takes a big heart to lead in animal welfare, one that Barbara is celebrated for! Sixty years earth-side, and eighteen in every rescued animal’s corner. Happy Birthday, Barb!

“We are incredibly grateful to have such a mighty leader at the helm of our SPCA. Your passion is contagious, your determination unmatched, and your heart bigger than most.”
